Who Will the UDFA's Be? [5-2-08]

Nobsnubber came up with the idea of sharing his "board" of players left that the Lions may bring in to mini-camp or sign in the coming days. So if everyone who tracks such things would post your lists and info here, that would be great so we can all take a look at it, and make our speculations!

Here is a link from Mlive with everyone invited to the 5-2-08 to 5-5-08 minicamp.

News from kffl.com on UDFA's:

Josh Buchanan, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Detroit Lions signed undrafted rookie free-agent RB Allen Ervin (Lambuth). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Josh Buchanan, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Detroit Lions signed undrafted rookie free-agent LB Tyronne Pruitt (Boston College). Terms of the deal were not disclosed

Josh Buchanan, of NFLDraftBible.com, reports the Detroit Lions signed undrafted rookie free-agent FS Bobbie Williams (Bethune-Cookman). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Unfortunately, compared to a lot of other teams, Detroit has been fairly inactive in the UDFA market. Hopefully things will pick up over the next few days.

***

Pearson Update:

Updating a previous report, Joe Smith, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Detroit Lions SS Kalvin Pearson was released on $50,000 bond, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's office records. Pearson will likely be arraigned on a later date. He is facing two felony charges, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and domestic battery by strangulation, and a misdemeanor, obstructing or opposing an officer without violence.

***

Dizon being thrown in at MLB:

Lions president and CEO Matt Millen said the team needs to bulk him up. They plan on moving Dizon to the middle immediately and give him a chance at winning the starting job. This would result in linebacker Paris Lenon moving to the strong side.

***

Avril at LB?:

The Detroit Free Press reports Detroit Lions rookie DE/LB Cliff Avril, a third-round draft choice, played both linebacker and defensive end at Purdue but will probably play linebacker in the NFL. He is undersized to be an every down defensive end. Avril will need time to make the transition to linebacker at the next level.

hard to really trust much of anything that comes from the DFP anymore though so take that with a grain of salt.

Two new additions

S Vince Gliatta (Youngstown State)

Football: Vince Gliatta Named Gateway's Defensive Player of the Week
St. Louis, Mo. -- Senior Youngstown State safety Vince Gliatta (Canton, Ohio) was named the Gateway Football Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Sunday.

Southern Illinois quarterback Nick Hill and UNI quarterback Eric Sanders shared Offensive Player-of-the-Week accolades after leading their teams to victories over FBS opponents while Missouri State placekicker Nate Stokes was the Specialist of the Week.

Gliatta made two key plays and a vicious hit to help him earn the honor. His interception with 2:29 remaining helped seal Youngstown State’s 23-17 home-opener victory over South Dakota State.
Gliatta finished with five total tackles, including four solo stops, forced a fumble and had his interception. He also recovered a blocked punt and returned it two yards for a touchdown on special teams in the first quarter.

LB Brian Bradford (Towson)
07 149 tackles 85 unassisted

Two more high motor types? Man I am so pumped for this season.

WR Darrell Blackman (North Carolina St)

Blackman arrived at N.C. State as a running back in 2004 and was moved to wide receiver in the spring of 2005. He played in 33 games (16 starts) over his first three seasons (2004-'06), posting 51 receptions for 599 yards (11.7 average) and three touchdowns, plus 110 carries for 456 yards (4.1 average) and three touchdowns. He ranked third in the nation in punt return average (17.8 yards) in '04, sixth in kickoff return average (29.1 yards) in '05 and fourth on kickoff returns (28.9) in '06. As a senior, he notched 41 receptions for 593 yards (14.5 average) and a touchdown, adding three rushing attempts for 12 yards. For his career, Blackman had 71 kickoff returns for 1,842 yards (25.9 average) and two touchdowns and 83 punt returns for 864 yards (10.4 average) and another two scores.

From NFL Draft Scout. Looks like a return specialist.
