Roster Lock Results: Defense
September 7th, 2010 | by detfan1979 |Yesterday I looked at our offensive roster “locks” — outside of Jon Jansen and a couple of fliers, we did quite well with a lot of agreement. While there was some agreement on a few defensive positions, the defensive locks were more scatter-shot — as were the results.
100% Club:
DT: Sammie Hill, Ndamukong Suh and Corey Williams were all chosen as stone cold locks. 3/3 was a great way to start!
DE: Kyle VandenBosch and Cliff Avril cemented their projected positions as starters.
LB: Deandre Levy, Julian Peterson and Zack Follett — all projected starters, and all right on as locks for the team.
S: Delmas was the only 100% pick by all contributors in what was the easiest call in a messy secondary.
CB: Chris Houston was again the only player given a full vote of well earned confidence — at least in his ability to make the final 53.
The 75% + Club:
CB: Amari Spievey had everyone but the Chief convinced. Jonathan Wade was also picked as a lock by everyone but GM70 and Nubsnobber. However, in a huge swing and a miss everyone but RIP had Bly making the final roster. This was the Jansen-level mistake on the defensive side of the ball.
The Rest:
DT: Andre Fluellen was rightly called by the Zac and the Chief. The rest of us took “no guess” on that 4th DT position – except me who flipped a coin and incorrectly had Landon Cohen making the team.
DE: Jared Devries was picked by 5 to make the final roster — which I guess he did make IR. Zac, DetFan1979 and Cheif were the only ones not picking Jason Hunter to be on the final roster. With 5/8 pulling for him, he didn’t even make it through all 4 preseason games. Ouch. I was, however, the only one who took a winning gamble on Turk McBride as a lock.
LB: This group was all over creation as no one really knew what was going to happen at LB. To the injured, 3/5 had Jordan Dizon making the roster – though IR wasn’t what we had in mind! To the good, 5/8 correctly chose Isaiah Ekejiuba to make the squad. GM70 chose Johnson – who may start in place of an injured Levy on Sunday – as one of his LB locks. Good call! Onto the not so swift, Nubsnobber and I had Vinny Ciurciu making the final cut. Oops. Thanks Rocky Boiman. Nubsnobber also went with fan favorite Caleb Campbell to make the 53, but he did land a spot on the practice squad.
S: 5/8 chose CC Brown to make the team out of the hectic field of candidates. Most abstained from naming any safeties not named “Louis Delmas” — very smartly considering the half of us who chose Ko Simpsonto make the cut were totally wrong. Ron hoped for Jarrod Page but he was never on the team to be cut, much less kept. Finally, in a positive note I like what I saw in UDFA Randy Phillips and so did the coaches to the tune of a roster spot.
CB: We had one Eric King believer — and Lions regimes past would have kept him as the known quantity. Instead the team went with Aaron Berry — another UDFA — whom I think has a great chance to be an impact player long term. Nubs also thought Wesley would make it due to his versatility, but apparently the staff felt one CB/S in Amari Spievey was enough.
Special Teams: We all correctly chose Jason Hanson, Dan Mulbach and Nick Harris on special teams which, unlike years past, I forgot to disallow as it was a free three. Not so next year!
Thanks for participating for the third year! It is always fun to see what everyone is thinking.

Good job getting this out so quick, I’m surprised we all did as well as we did considering how many new names are on the team

Hey you also forgot to mention we all correctly choose all 3 qb’s

Good stuff ‘79!
I wouldn’t be so quick to take STers off the ‘53. I’m not convinced that Hansen is a lock for next year.

How many years left on Jason’s contract? If this is his last year, God forbid, this may signal mutual philosophies. I just hope an injury doesn’t play into Jason’s decision, and that he is able to frequently enjoy the links when the tee boxes of Harbor Springs call his name.
I was a dismal 80%, and felt I had the perfect list. Let’s hope I do better in the fantasy world, for my sake.
