lions sign 7: Dizon and Cherilus left

As NetRat predicted, a majority of the Lions' draft picks signed today -- which means that all but Cherilus and Dizon are under contract. Now that those picks below them have signed, and other 1st and 2nd have set the market, look for a quick deal to get done for both -- my gut says they are there in time for the first practice Thursday.

I've had to eat crow before, so if one of them is inane enough to stage a holdout, I'll eat it fully in disgust. They have a chance to prove the off-field stuff will not distract them, and that they do care about being on the team. There is only so much money, and holding out would only hurt them, and the team -- plain and simple.

these are the 2 guys with court cases looming-maybe they wont sign them to avoid the problems they may bring???

They'll sign them both. I think that the court cases are getting more attention from the fans and the media than they are from the team. The Cherilus thing was known about and dealt with. And I think that the Dizon thing was dealt with in the conversation with Rod and that's the end of it. I expect both players to be signed in the next couple of days and that both of the players will be stand up guys for years to come.

Regarding Cheifs comment:

I don't think the Lions can afford to leave these two unsigned. The damage is already done, you can't leave your top two picks unsigned because the fans would throw a fit.

Given all of that, plus the fact that Millen would look even MORE inept if he didn't sign these two, it is a %100 surety that these two WILL be signed. Therefore, they might as well sign them sooner than later if they're going to be on the team either way. Otherwise, you're just treading water.
