If the Lions were cooking the Thanksgiving Turkey, they are following Rod's recipe; but they just aren't sure whether it will under cook, overcook, or is even for Turkey, not Rabbit Stew. Yet, week after week they toss it out on the field just to watch in morbid fascination to see what is going to happen.
It's like throwing your Turkey in the Oven, randomly setting the temperature, waiting til you are hungry, pulling it out and viola! Salmonella Sauce or Turkey Jerky -- you don't know what you're going to get because you don't know what you're doing. Sure, you had a plan -- put the Turkey into the oven and cook it til it's done. But unless you know what temperature to cook it at, for approximately how long, how to prepare it properly, and how to tell it is indeed done -- then your plan is too vague.
Rod and his staff have the same problem with this team. They know what turkey should taste like. They know they want a Turkey that is cooked, yet juicy and tender. They know what real football teams look like. They know they want a tough team that grinds out the clock and beats up the other guy on defense. But just like my clueless cooking lesson above, they don't really know how to get there.
I'll be enjoying well-cooked Turkey this Thanksgiving. As for football, well... not even the Lions know what they are going to get. So I guess just sit back and watch the show!

Great annology of the Lions. Your real life examples and everyone's well thought inputs is why I check this site daily. Everyone have a great memorable, and safe Thanksgiving. One of my gratitudes is that we do have the Lions to call our own.
Some thoughts going into tomorrows game. The only coach I have seen worth keeping for next season is Colleto. He seems to properly evaluate the talent he has and game plans accordinly. He also adjusts the calls in the game when the other teams make thier defensive adjustments. He rarely gambles, which goes with Dan O's skills. I think if the Lions had a defense, the offense will work next year with Colleto.
He is not head coaching material in my opion due to what comes out of his mouth. He is too blunt at times to hold a team together.
There are three ingredients needed to win. First the Lions will need help in order to win. It's unlikely the Titans will help, but given it's such a short turn around and having to play the early game on a Thursday on the road… Well it gives the Lions a chance that the Titans just won't show.
Second they would need to have their QB to play exceptionally. Does anybody remember Clint Longley on Thanksgiving day. He wasn't a good QB but he had his day in the sun. So why not Culpepper or Henson?
Third the Defense has to play inspired and hit hard. I don't want to sound like I'm wishing an injury upon a player, but lets understand if Collins goes out of the game, the Lions have a better chance.
Will these three ingredients be available today.... unlikely but strange things can happen in the NFL.
Have a happy Thanksgiving because there is plenty to be thankful for.

What a national * on national TV. Tennessee's O-line did not come out with the same intensity in the second half and they still out score us 19-0.
I was talking to my next door nieghbor, who is a big Dallas fan, about our defense being so predictable. I stated that I could be a decent offensive coordinator agaist the Lions. Just watch the tape from the previous game.
I stated from an earlier post that I wouldn't mind seeing the Lions go into the off season with an open competition between Kitna, Culpepper, and Dan O. I must have just woke up from a dream that all three could be successful with an offensive line. Although I do not believe this. Here is a thought. With our first round picks, draft QBs. Remember Dallas doing this with Aikman as thier first, and also giving up another first in the supplemental draft to take Walsh.
