New Chambers Needed? (updated)
November 3rd, 2009 | by detfan1979 |I haven’t had a chance to watch the game rewind as of yet – that will be Wednesday – so right now, no game-specific analysis. I have caught the low-lights, and it wasn’t pretty.
I stumbled across this article this morning indicating that Chris Chambers had been released from the Chargers – they need the roster spot for defense, and felt they had his replacement (Floyd) on the roster already. I know he hasn’t been near as productive this season in San Diego as he was the year before when Miami traded him at the deadline – but the Chargers really haven’t been, well, the Chargers this year either. Considering the inexcusable number of drops by Lions’ WR all season, but especially against the Rams, it only makes sense to go get Chambers for at least the rest of the season. Could he fare any worse than what Detroit is already fielding behind CJ?
Standeford could easily be cut (who’s going to sign him away if this doesn’t work out?) so that the Lions can sign Chambers. Chambers has in the past shown to be at least a decent deep threat – and that is what the Lions need with CJ out (and even when he is in). No one else is scaring the opposing defenses – Mayhew has shown a willingness to be aggressive in player acquisition before, and Schwartz is not afraid to gamble on change (can we put Ramierez back at LG for the rest of the season please?) even if it doesn’t work out. Here’s hoping they take a shot deep, and get the long TD. They certainly need one.
UPDATE: Kansas City got Chambers on a waiver claim. It doesn’t indicate if any other team put in a claim for him. It still leaves the Lions with the same problem, and they need an answer. (kudos to chief for letting me know as it happened. Thanks Chief!)

I guess the chiefs got him so were stuck with a bunch of scrubs who cant catch, what makes me sick is one of them is a 1st round tight end we just had to have and is now basically worthless and we could of goten a tackle or a guard or someone we could use.
