Gameday: Lions at Bengals
December 6th, 2009 | by detfan1979 |On the road again! The Lions and I are both going through Cincinatti today. Unfortunately, despite my traveling through in a loaded minivan with three little pink Lions, I get the feeling my pass through Cincy will be more pleasant than what the Lions are going to have.
Green Bay figured out early on that despite their defensive struggles, the Lions can still do a decent job shutting down the run. Once they went wide open passing they were able to gash Detroit’s phantom secondary and lethargic pass rush.
If the Bengals try to rotationally run their backs to pound out time of posession, all they will be doing is keeping Detroit in the game and playing right into their relative defensive strength. If they come out firing on all cylinders in the passing game, Detroits only chance will be that the Stafford and CJ magically catch fire and torch Cincy’s defense. That would also require that the Detroit running game actually ummm…. Run? Unfortunately, what started out a half good OG play has gone from half bad to Just plain awful in a very short period since Peterman went down for the season. This has left defenders flowing through the guard positions into the backfield to blow up plays of all kinds. You just can’t throw deep to cj if he can only get 5 yards downfield when the qb is getting hit.
Still, all that being said you never know what will happen and Cincy has a history of laying an egg against teams they should beat. The Lions could also come out motivated and catch them off guard. While this isn’t even close to a lock, even on the road this game is still winable.
As per usual, leave your thoughts in the game. I won’t be able to get a streaming video, but I’m going to follow along as best ican and buy the NFL game rewind to catch it this week.
Go Lions!!!

actually the bengals came out throwing and we actually did well against them, james actually had a good game. stafford stated out strong then faded, then the bengals got the running game going and put us away. The scary thing, with less than 4 minutes stafford being crushed by an unblocked attacker and being hurt once again as we all wonder why they didnt take him out of the game sooner. I thought the bengals would crush us, they didnt-I think were further along than many people think.
